BIFF 2019 has partnered with the exquisite Elbow Beach Resort to offer a special rate for visiting filmmakers! For a four (4) night stay or, Elbow Beach has created a singles package  of $1,242.92 inclusive of fees and including a Full Festival Pass to BIFF 2019. For Doubles is $1,328.12. Days can be booked individually for these dates. The first four days from Sunday March 10th- Thursday March 14th are focused on emerging talents and includes two Master Classes and a couple of Special Events. The second four days from Thursday March 14th-Monday March 18th includes the featured line-up and Awards Ceremony, along with Special Events for filmmakers. BIFF Master Classes: The Producer's Retrospective - March 6, 2016

We are honoured to welcome highly-experienced and respected independent film producer, Christine Vachon, back to BIFF after her inaugural appearance for jury duty in 2015. As co-founder and co-head of Killer Films, Christine is responsible for a long list of award-winning projects including Still Alice, for which lead actress Julianne Moore won an Oscar, a Golden Globe, a Screen Actors Guild Award and a BAFTA in 2015. Her most recent project, Carol starring Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara, has been celebrated by critics and the public alike with no fewer than six Oscar nominations this year. 

Christine offers an insight into the world of filmmaking. She will uncover the art of film production from concept to big screen, touching upon choosing a project, identifying talent, film finance, marketing and how to operate in a creative yet commercial industry.

Every year as part of BIFF, we host a series of free early evening Live Talks at Bermuda National Gallery in City Hall. The public are invited to join us for these panel discussions featuring, actors, directors, critics and other industry insiders talking about all aspects of the world of film in person:

 

From Real Life to Film Reel - Monday, March 7

Moderated by Susanne Notman, local writer and past BIFF Chairman

Celebrated sports journalist David Walsh, who was instrumental in uncovering the doping program of Lance Armstrong and the US Postal Service Cycling Team, talks about the process of turning his book about this subject into a feature film. The Program. The film will screen at BIFF on Sunday, March 6 and is directed by Academy Award nominated Stephen Frears (Philomena, The Queen) and stars Ben Foster, Chris O'Dowd and Dustin Hoffman.

The Short Circuit - Tuesday, March 8

Moderated by Film Producer Bayard Ourterbridge

A number of visiting film directors with works competing in BIFF's Global Shorts Competition will discuss their craft including Helen O'Hanlon (How To Be a Villain), Frederic Lumiere (Lady Ganga: Nilza's Story) and Keola Racela (Two Sisters).

The Dynamics of Documentary - Wednesday, March 9

Moderated by BIFF PR Director Alison Hicks

Director Nick Read unpicks the process of making the documentary Bolshoi Babylon, one of BIFF's World Cinema features, showing at 6pm that day. The Bolshoi is a world famous Russian ballet theatre with a story to tell and Nick was given unique access to record the 2013/14 season both in front of and back stage. Nick will also talk about past documentaries that have formed his career to date.

All BIFF Live Talks take place from 5:00pm-5:45pm at the Bermuda National Gallery located inside City Hall at 17 Church Street. All panel discussions are open to the public for free.
